Baccarat is one of the most elegant games in the casino, but it's often misunderstood. Unlike live dealer baccarat, software baccarat (also called RNG baccarat) uses a certified random number generator to simulate the cards. It's faster, available at lower minimums, and just as fair as the physical game.

This guide covers the rules, payouts, and house edges of software baccarat. It explains exactly why the Banker bet is statistically superior, how the 5% commission works, and what you should look for before playing on a licensed platform.

1. Software baccarat vs Live baccarat

Both versions follow the exact same rules, but the delivery is different. Live baccarat streams a real dealer dealing physical cards. Software baccarat uses an RNG to generate the cards and displays them on screen with animations.

2. The core rules

The goal is to bet on the hand (Player or Banker) that will end up closest to a total of 9. The rules are strict and fixed — neither you nor the dealer makes any decisions during the round.

Card values:

The "Tens Digit" Rule: If the total of your hand exceeds 9, you drop the tens digit. A hand of 8 and 7 totals 15, which counts as 5. A hand of 9 and 9 totals 18, which counts as 8.

3. The three bets and their payouts

There are only three main bets in baccarat. You place your bet, the cards are dealt, and the hand closest to 9 wins.

BetPaysHouse Edge
Player1:11.24%
Banker1:1 minus 5% commission1.06%
Tie8:1 or 9:1~14.36%

4. The best bet: Why Banker wins

The Banker bet is the mathematically superior choice. But why? It comes down to the third-card rule.

If either the Player or Banker hand has a total of 8 or 9 after two cards (a "natural"), the round ends. If not, the Player draws a third card if their total is 0–5. The Banker then follows a strict lookup table based on their own total and the Player's third card.

Because the Banker draws *last*, they have slightly more information. The rules are designed so the Banker hand wins slightly more often (about 45.86% of the time) than the Player hand (about 44.62% of the time). The 5% commission is the casino's way of balancing this advantage — but even with the commission, the Banker bet has a lower house edge (1.06%) than the Player bet (1.24%).

The Tie bet trap: New players are often drawn to the Tie bet because it pays 8:1 or 9:1. But the house edge on a Tie bet is roughly 14%. This means you will lose money significantly faster betting on Tie than betting on Player or Banker.

5. Understanding the 5% commission

When you win a Banker bet, the casino takes a 5% commission on your winnings. This isn't a fee charged by the operator on top of the game; it's built into the math of baccarat to make the Banker bet mathematically viable for the house.

Example: You bet ₱100 on Banker. Banker wins. You are paid ₱95 in profit, plus your original ₱100 stake is returned to you. Net profit: ₱95.

Some software versions offer No Commission Baccarat. In this variant, the 5% fee is removed, but a Banker win with a total of 6 pays only 50% instead of 1:1. The overall house edge remains roughly the same.

6. How to verify a PAGCOR-licensed platform

Before you deposit to play software baccarat, confirm the operator is actually licensed. This takes two minutes and protects every bet that follows.

  1. Check the PAGCOR accreditation. Go to PAGCOR's official channels and verify the operator against the public register of accredited Gaming System Administrators. Licensed operators are listed by their legal corporate name — not just their marketing brand.
  2. Use the PAGCOR Guarantee portal. PAGCOR operates a public verification portal at pagcorguarantee.ph where you can check whether a brand and domain are on the official register.
  3. Confirm the corporate entity. The operator behind the brand should be a named corporation — for example, Skyline Nexus Corporation, which operates Juan365 (juan365.com) and holds PAGCOR accreditation COE No. 25-0035.
  4. Check the PAGCOR Guarantee seal or verification link on the operator's own site. Licensed operators are encouraged to link to the official verification portal so players can check them independently.

Warning: a PAGCOR logo, a "Licensed & Regulated" badge, or a PDF of a certificate on a website is not proof of licensing. Anyone can upload an image. Always verify through PAGCOR's own database, not through the operator's site.

Frequently asked questions

No. Software baccarat uses a certified Random Number Generator (RNG) that has been independently tested by labs like eCOGRA or GLI. The house edge comes from the rules of the game (the commission on Banker, the payout on Tie), not from any hidden manipulation of the cards.

No. Card counting requires tracking the composition of a physical shoe that is depleted over time. Software baccarat uses an RNG that simulates a fresh shuffle on every single hand. There is no shoe to count.

Mathematically, yes. The Banker bet has the lowest house edge (1.06%) of any standard casino bet. However, some players alternate between Player and Banker to change the pace, or use betting systems. No system changes the underlying math — Banker remains the most favourable bet.

In baccarat, if the total of your cards is 10 or higher, you drop the tens digit. For example, 7 + 8 = 15, which counts as 5. 10 + 9 = 19, which counts as 9. This is why the highest possible hand is a 9.

Usually at 10%–20%, and sometimes not at all. Because baccarat has a very low house edge, most operators restrict its contribution to prevent players from clearing bonus wagering requirements with almost no risk. Always check the game contribution table before claiming a bonus.

Check PAGCOR's official register of accredited Gaming System Administrators, and use the PAGCOR Guarantee verification portal at pagcorguarantee.ph. The operator's legal corporate name should appear in the register — not just their marketing brand. If a platform isn't on the register, do not deposit.
